Bethel’s Welcome Team is in one respect the largest of all the serving teams in the church because at a practical level everyone in the church can play a part in it and we believe that all in our fellowship share a responsibility to be inclusive and inviting to those who walk through the doors of the church, even if it is just once as a visitor; or on an infrequent basis; or every week for many years.
There are presently a dedicated team of 20 people who are specifically tasked with providing a friendly and informal welcome at our front porch before and after Sunday morning and evening worship, as well as looking out for, and providing an initial contact point for those who are new to or unfamiliar to church, or indeed to Bethel, and we hope we provide a friendly and familiar face for their first and hopefully future visits.
Our team is made up of individuals from a cross section of our congregation, male and female adults of all ages. Some are long term members, whilst others are relatively new to Bethel themselves. We believe that it is important to be visible and welcoming which demonstrates our openness to those who are unfamiliar with “church”; for those coming for the first time; or those who don’t know what to expect or where to go; as well as to those who are passing-by that may just glance in just out of curiosity!
